Long gone are the days where, as a fleet manager, you have to rely on ‘How’s my driving’ signs on the back of your vehicles for your driver monitoring. You can now see exactly how your vehicles are being driven with vehicle tracking. Driver monitoring – what do you need to know?
As a fleet manager you need to be aware of driver’s time on the road, driving patterns, and speeds. But, more than this you need to be sure that they are safe. And they are keeping people around them safe. How do you do this effectively?
Members of the public are not going to tell you that Dave in truck 3 has navigated that roundabout well, nor will they tell you that Jim in van 7 merged well into traffic during the roadworks. They will tell you that your daft driver cut them up outside of school when they were picking up young Annabelle though.
It is not all about big brother though – you are not using the system to beat them. You need to be sure that they are taking the breaks that they should be taking. You can use the system to praise them too.
