Has storm Ophelia affected your drivers today?

As storm Ophelia hits the UK have your drivers been affected?
Storm Ophelia has been predicted to hit the west coast of Ireland and Scotland throughout today and into tomorrow. But is has had some effects on weather conditions across the mainland UK today too.
This morning as I drove to work it was getting darker, and the clouds were looking heavy. This led to a thick dense fog laying across the roads.
Has storm Ophelia disrupted your travel plans today?
Driving in fog can cause some issues, especially if there are some inexperienced drivers on the road. It is not necessarily your fleet drivers that you need to worry about but the drivers that are out on the road with them.
Here are some tips for driving in the fog brought by Storm Ophelia.
1 – Check your headlights – your drivers should always check that their headlights are fully functional before setting off for the day. In a foggy situation it is best to use the dipped headlights. This setting will allow the driver to see more of the road, and will allow other traffic to see them.
Full beams are not good when there is fog. The fog can reflect the light back, therefore reducing visibility not making it easier for the driver.
2 – Use your fog lights – all vehicles come with rear fog lights, they are to be used once visibility gets below 100m. Remember that your fog lights will only work if your headlights are on.
Maybe the fog will lift as the storm moves later today.

Is your journey really necessary when it is raining?
Here are some tips for driving in the stormy conditions that could be brought by Storm Ophelia
1 – Is your journey really necessary? – if the storm gets bad it might be worth asking whether the journey that you are about to make is absolutely necessary. Can it wait until tomorrow when things should be back to normal?
2 – Reduce your speed – wind and rain provide 2 difficult sets of conditions to drive in. Reducing your speed will allow you to have more control over your vehicle. You will also be able to see what everyone else is doing around you.
Use your telematics system to keep an eye on your vehicles today. A decent vehicle tracking system will update regularly for you allowing you to see where your vehicles are and how they are driving.
