Features review – key map functions
by Fiona Taylor
Are you using all of the key map functions available to you on the live screen?
Once you have logged in to your vehicle tracking system the live screen will show all of your vehicles on a map. This view is set to automatically show all of your vehicles, no matter how close together or far apart they are. This feature instantly gives you a broad overview of your assets, right from the start. But are you making use of all the key map functions that you have?
Read on to find out if there are some more features that you could be using.
Moving the Map
Click and drag directly on the map to choose which part of the map you want to see. Double-clicking on the map zooms in on the current position of the cursor. If your mouse is equipped with a scroll wheel, roll it up or down to zoom in or out.
Zooming in on a specific vehicle
This map function allows you to look at one vehicle only, all you need to do is click on the box in the list on the left hand side of the page. This will move the map to focus on that specific vehicle.
Changing what you can see on the LIVE page
Amending your view is easy. You can decide to look at the drivers name, the vehicle registration, or your own name that you have called that vehicle.
All you have to do is click on the cog above your driver/vehicle list on the left hand side of the screen to open up the config options.
This will give you some different options. You can choose to display;
- Vehicle name
- Vehicle name and registration
- Vehicle name and driver
- Vehicle name, registration and driver
The next few options are all available in the map actions section of the live screen. To get here all you need to do is:
- click on the + icon in the top right hand corner of the map
- put a tick in the box next to map actions
- a new menu will appear above the map
- close the menu box down by clicking on the – icon
Find nearest vehicle
You can find out which is the nearest vehicle to:
- postcode
- other vehicle
- point of interest
Just type in the postcode or choose the vehicle/point of interest from the drop down boxes, and click the relevant button and the system will show you which is the nearest tracked vehicle.
Find postcode
Maybe you want to search for a postcode on a map. it is easy when you use the find postcode section of the map functions. Just type in the postcode that you want to search for, hit find postcode and the map will take you straight there.
Estimated Time of Arrival
Do you customers call wanting to know when your driver will arrive? Simply select that driver, and use the ETA function.
Input their postcode and the system will tell you how far away they are.
Send SMS
Use this function to open the “SMS to Driver” window. From this window, you can enter a brief message to send to the driver. If you have stored the drivers details in the config section of the system then the mobile phone number will automatically appear here when you select that driver from the list on the left hand side of your screen. Standard messaging rates may apply. For safety purposes, you should never read or send text messages while driving.
Quick Trip View
Rather than flicking to your activity screen, you can use the quick trip map function for looking at the latest trips for that vehicle.
Simply choose your vehicle and the quick trip viewer will show you the basic details of their trips. It is always better to use the activity screen for an indepth view of the daily trips.
Geofence mode
This section allows you to build geofences around certain areas, meaning that you can track visits, or set alerts. To find out how to do this in full read our other blog post on the geofence feature online.
Map+
The final feature on that menu is Map+, this will make your full screen the map so you can see all the vehicles.
