Daily vehicle checks

by Fiona Taylor

It is important that the vehicles are checked every day before they are used, you can set this up so that the drivers carry out a walkaround check of their vehicle before their first trip of the day.
They need to check the;
- lights
- tyres
- wheel fixings
- bodywork
- trailer coupling
- load and other equipment
They are also then responsible for reporting and defects to the person in your organisation who is in charge of sorting out the vehicle defects. Reports should include the;
- vehicle registration or identification mark
- date of inspection
- details of the defects
- name of person reporting the defects
- and who the defects were reported to
These checks, and the reporting can be costly – in both time and actual cash. To make things simpler Satmo have designed an easy to use vehicle checklist that will link to your vehicle tracking system.
The driver will complete the checks as he or she walks around the vehicle at the start of their shift. These checks can be completed on a handheld device, meaning that there is no need for pieces of paper that can get lost between vehicle and office. The driver logs in so that the system recognises who is completing the check, it will then store that the check has been completed along with the mileage against the vehicle on your tracking site.
If any defects have been noted then they will be stored against the vehicle too.
The fleet managers can log into their own page to get a list of the defects. The fleet manager doesn’t need to know if there are no defects, just what needs fixing. If necessary they canspot check against each vehcile just to sense check that the daily checks are being completed.
Do you need an easier way to complete your vehicle checks? Do you want a system that will store all the details for you and just give your vehicle managers the information that they need? That’s where Satmo can help – give us a call on 01274 587748 or leave us your details here and one of our team will call you back.
