Where’s Wally?

by Fiona Taylor
Do you have a fleet of vehicles and a group of drivers? Do the drivers of each vehicle change dependent upon which job needs doing or which run has been scheduled? Do you always know off the top of your head which driver is in which vehicle?
How can you see which driver is in each vehicle at any one time? Driver ID.

Dallas keys or driver ID fobs
Why do you need driver ID?
Instead of just using your vehicle tracking to analyse data based on vehicle, driver ID means that you can also look at the historical data by driver. Each driver is allocated their own dallas key, each has a unique identification number on it, and this number is allocated to them in the configuration of the tracking site. When the system is installed an electronic touch reader will be fitted to the vehicle so that the drivers can ‘tag’ into a vehicle as they get in.
Depending upon the type of vehicle you have and the installation that you want the driver ID can be used to immobilise the vehicles. This means that the vehicle will not start until a registered key fob is presented to the reader within the vehicle. You do need to have a more indepth installation so ask your vehicle tracking provider about this.
What can I use driver ID for?
- run your reports by driver not be vehicle
- get more accurate information on each individuals working day/week
- driver accountability – who was actually driving when the vehicle was caught speeding?
- more security if your vehicles won’t start until someone fobs into them
