The 8 annoying driving habits

annoying driving habits

Whether you have been driving for 30 years or you passed your test last week there are a number of annoying driving habits that other drivers do that really annoy us all.

Here are our top 10 annoying driving habits that other drivers commit every time we are out in the car.

1 – Not indicating

This one really pushes our buttons – when people are driving round a roundabout and then leave it right to the last minute to indicate, or don’t bother to indicate at all. We are not mid readers – how are we supposed to know which way you are thinking of going!

2 – speeding and driving too slow

Speed or lack of it can cause many accidents on roads around the UK. Watching people brake for speed cameras, and particularly funny is watching people brake for average speed cameras – it is too late now you speed demon.

Driving too slowly is just as bad. Whilst I wouldn’t recommend speeding up when you are driving, driving at 20 mph in a 30 mph zone can cause a huge build up of traffic behind you.

3 – Sitting in a yellow box junction

yellow box junctionBox junctions are there for a reason. They have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road so you can see where they are. You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signaled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.

Many people forget the law about box junctions and enter into box junctions without checking to see if they can enter and exit without stopping behind a stationary vehicle at all within the yellow box. If the traffic is moving slowly and you see red brake lights, beware, you could find yourself coming to a stop within the yellow box junction and thereby committing an offence.

You have automatically committed an offence if

1) The exit was not clear when you entered the yellow box junction
2) You entered the yellow box junction and stopped behind a stationary vehicle
3) Part of your vehicle is inside the yellow box junction and your vehicle is stationary

4 –  Accelerating at a red lightsmoke from tyres

We all know that this means that you want to set off quickly and beat us at the lights. Maybe get in the correct lane to begin with, then you wouldn’t need to cut us up.

5 – Taking a slip road late so you jump the queue

Junctions are signaled from a mile away – they are not just sprung on you. We all move to the inside lane ready to take the junction, then some annoying driver comes down in the next lane and cuts into the traffic at the top of the slip road. Don’t do this – just queue like everybody else!

6 – Middle lane hogging

middle lane hoggingAaargghhh – how annoying is this? You are driving along in the left hand lane on the motorway and a middle lane hogger is just sat there in the middle of an open motorway. The police had said that they were going to prosecute middle lane hoggers but as far as i can see nothing has changed.

We drive on the left, the other 2 lanes are for overtaking.

7 – Queuing for right hand fuel pumps

Why are you doing this? Every garage I have ever been to has pumps that dispense fuel with the pump that will reach to either side of your car. As long as you park appropriately and not miles away from the pump then you will be able to refuel from either side.

8 – Not waving thanks

This is the most annoying driving habit that other drivers have for me. When someone kindly lets you into their lane, or lets you cut across the line of traffic that they are waiting in, just raise your hand and say thank you. It is not a huge gesture, but means a lot in our world of people demanding or thinking that they are owed something.
